Microsoft Ignite 2025 – San Francisco Recap

Back from Microsoft Ignite 2025 – San Francisco! 🌟

I had the opportunity to attend Microsoft Ignite in San Francisco, and it truly felt like stepping into the epicenter of innovation. “AI energy is everywhere” from the keynote stages to the hands-on pods and it’s clear how rapidly Microsoft is reshaping the security landscape.

This year, I focused primarily on hands-on lab sessions, because I wanted direct exposure to the newly announced security capabilities and portal advancements across the Microsoft ecosystem. Here are some of the key labs I completed:
🔹 Securing the Stack: Zero Trust for Data, Infrastructure, Network & SOC
🔹 Manage Sensitive Data with Information Protection in the age of AI
🔹 Prevent data exposure in Copilot & AI apps using DLP
🔹 Conditional Access: Practical Insights & Innovations (Community Connection Pod)
🔹 Threat Hunting in Microsoft Sentinel
🔹 CSPM in Microsoft Defender for Cloud
🔹 Zero Trust Lab: Securing Identities & Devices with Intune & Entra

One of the most insightful discussions came from the Community Pod, where it was surprising (and reassuring!) to see how many organizations face the same recurring misconfigurations with Conditional Access Policies. Hearing these real-world challenges made the sessions even more valuable, especially for addressing complex issues at scale.

A big highlight:
👉 Microsoft Sentinel is now deeply merged into the Defender Portal, bringing expanded AI-driven capabilities, more unified monitoring, and stronger correlations across the security stack.
👉 And of course, Security Copilot is everywhere a reminder that agentic AI is no longer the future; it’s the present. San Francisco, the heart of Silicon Valley, truly felt like the perfect place to experience this shift.

Overall, it was an energizing week full of learning, labs, and community conversations and I’m excited to bring these insights back to strengthen our security posture and support our clients at Cavallo Technologies Inc.
