Cavallo Team Wins Databricks Summit Hackathon

Super proud of my team Praveen Sundaresan Ramesh Sid Guliani and Mohamed Amine Jallouli, MSc for winning 1st place at the Databricks Apps & Agent for Good Hackathon 2026 at the Databricks Data & AI Summit!

122 teams, 450 participants, 1 day (and maybe a few extra hours 😁 )

The Challenge:
Given 100k rows of super messy healthcare facilities data (free text, dubious data…), build a Databricks app to help a non-technical healthcare planner turn this mess into insights they can trust.

What they did:

  • Identified 5 data quality dimensions (Evidence, Authority, Independent Corroboration, Spatial Consistency, Recency) and built a holistic Trust score for each record. Using Unity Catalog, Databricks AI Query and OpenAI models.
  • Built a ReAct Databricks App with 3 aspects:
    • Monitoring Dashboard giving the analysts insights into how, how much, which and where the bad data is. Using Databricks apps and plotly charts/maps
    • Review Workspace allowing the analyst to assess, correct, and record decision as issues are resolved. Using Lakebase.
    • AI Assistant: supervisor agent with a Genie tool for natural-language queries over the data & a web search tool for external context, which let the non-technical analyst get custom grounded insights. Using AgentBricks Genie

I’ve always known we have a very strong team at Cavallo Technologies Inc. but once in a while external validation feels great 😅 .

100% Canadian, 100% Databricks, 100% in Production!
